ABSTRACT

The necessity for the development and enhancement of teacher commitment to satisfying students' learning needs in response to the COVID crisis is increasingly highlighted. It is not known, however, how to increase commitment in schoolteachers to boost online teaching in light of the fact that they, too, are struggling to cope with the rapid, unexpected change. A total of 601 teachers from primary and secondary schools across China participated in this study, with an average teaching experience of 15.9 years. Structural equation modelling was used to verify the significance of contextual, cognitive, affective and behavioural factors in boosting teachers' commitment to online teaching. The findings demonstrated that teacher agency played a complete mediating role in the predicting power of other factors to teacher commitment. Therefore, it was recommended that attention be paid to the practice and opportunities for teacher agentic actions, which necessitates real encounters with online teaching, allowing teachers to act meaningfully and initiate a new set of teaching strategies. Practitioner notes What is already known about this topic The large-scale transition to emergency online teaching serves as the catalyst for creating a blended or hybrid model of education provision in the long term. How hard teachers work to perform at their best and overcome obstacles to support students' learning needs in new environment relies on the intensity of teacher commitment to change. Online and blended learning requires teachers to not only be prepared for a diverse learning environment but also to build and rebuild their own identity as future teachers. What this paper adds This study adds to our knowledge of how traditional F2F classroom teachers reinvented their roles and responsibilities in response to the pandemic-driven challenges based on real-world experiences. As a result of the COVID-19 lockdown school closures, schoolteachers' commitment to enhancing online teaching efforts has increased. The study highlights the complete mediating role of teacher agency in the predicting power of cognitive and affective factors to teacher commitment. Implications for practice and/or policy To learn more about how to be a good online teacher, future teachers need greater deliberate effort in diverse online teaching activities. Future teachers should be equipped with not only new technological and remote instructional strategies and skills, but also with confidence in, value for, and actual experiences with online teaching in a technology-rich environment. For teachers to obtain hands-on experience in integrating technology with distance teaching pedagogy at a time of rapid change, schools should have some days online and offer blended learning opportunities wherever possible. © 2023 British Educational Research Association.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe paper aims to examine the moderating role of both the perceived value and perceived trust in the relationship between the ease of use, perceived risk, perceived usefulness and quality of website and the Palestinian millennials' behavioral intention toward online shopping. Design/methodology/approachA survey questionnaire was carried out targeting 357 Palestinian millennials. In total, 311 valid responses were processed and analyzed using PLS-SEM model fitting approach. FindingsThe findings demonstrate that the impact of ease of use, perceived usefulness and website quality on online shopping behavioral intention are reinforced by perceived value and perceived trust, while the effect of perceived risk is weakened. This implies that improving convenience and lowering non-monetary costs such as time and effort will enhance the customers' perceived value and, as a result, their shopping behavioral intention. In addition, one of the most significant barriers to online shopping is a lack of trust. Therefore, once trust is established, shopping willingness rises, and vice versa. Research limitations/implicationsAs this study focused on consumers from a developing country, it neglected the cross-cultural issue;thus, future studies may have to make a comparison of other samples from various nations to gain a deeper understanding. Furthermore, this research focused on the ease of use, perceived risk, perceived usefulness and perceived quality of the website to predict the customer's behavioral intention toward online shopping, which shows significant results, indicating that more research is needed to look at these independent variables as predictors of customers purchasing decision. Practical implicationsOnline shopping is a critical topic that has significant impact on the business world. Investigating the moderating role of perceived trust and perceived value on Palestinian millennials' online shopping behavioral intention during COVID-19 might give useful information for organizations developing policies and strategies to create direct sales using social media platforms. Furthermore, the findings might also be valuable for management studies and academics to better understand consumers' intentions when it comes to commercial internet buying. Originality/valueThe empirical nature of this paper gives a thorough explanation of the phenomena of online shopping from a developing country. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first empirical study that examines the moderating effect of perceived trust and perceived value on Palestinian millennials' online shopping behavioral intention during COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

As the epidemic normaliztion continues, more and more enterprises chose telecommuting as their working mode. However, telecommuting has greatly reduced the opportunities and time for employees to socialize in the workplace. In that case, the workplace loneliness may induced by the lack of quantity and quality of employees' social contact, which would seriously affect the job satisfaction, organizational commitment and even the physical and mental health of employees. Based on the self-determination theory and the theory of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, this study explored the impact of self-efficacy on workplace loneliness, with professional identity and social support for mediation. The results showed that self-efficacy has a negative influence on the workplace loneliness, and professional identity and social support in the relationship between self-efficacy and workplace loneliness the chain intermediary role. Corporate managers should pay more attention to the harm of workplace loneliness. ABSTRACT

Although many studies have analyzed smart governance in Indonesia, the research linking smart governance service, citizen satisfaction, and trust is rare. The present study fills the gap by investigating the associations among dimensions of smart governance service, citizen satisfaction, and trust. Additionally, it examines the mediating role of citizen satisfaction in the nexus. An online survey was conducted on Depok's residents using Google docs. 220 respondents have participated in this research. Data were analyzed using a partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings of this study show that involvement, security, and information provision are associated with citizen satisfaction and trust. In addition, the relationship between involvement, security, information provision, and citizen trust is mediated by citizen satisfaction. This study not only contributes to the theory but also the practice of smart governance in the context of Indonesia. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

This study examines the role of corporate governance and corporate philanthropy during COVID-19, with the mediating role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) knowledge management among Chinese listed firms. The study employed secondary data obtained from the Chinese Stock Market & Accounting Research (CSMAR) database on board size (BS) and board composition (BC) as corporate governance proxies. The findings show that BS and BC have a positive but insignificant relationship with corporate philanthropy, while CSR knowledge fully mediates the relationship between corporate governance and corporate philanthropy. Additionally, we find that board size and board composition have a positive relationship with CSR knowledge. This study has practical implications for firms engaged in the process view of CSR knowledge, which actively contributes to COVID-19 philanthropy. The process view of CSR receives more information from outside stakeholders and implements their resources on the most recent CSR issue. This response creates value for the firm as it targets the most recent issue in society. © 2021 IEEE.
